Description
Turbidity Silt Curtain contains sediment stirred up by marine construction work, so it doesn’t spread through the surrounding water. Piling, dredging or other in-water work disturbs the seabed, and without a barrier that sediment plume drifts well beyond the construction zone, affecting water clarity and marine life, and risking a breach of resource consent conditions. This curtain floats on a buoyant collar at the surface with a weighted skirt hanging down to contain the sediment plume within the construction zone, and connects end to end with adjoining sections to form a continuous barrier across open water. Each curtain measures 2m deep by 25m long and weighs 30kg. Marine construction crews use it around piling, dredging and other waterway work to keep sediment contained and stay within resource consent requirements.
